A Career in Tradeshow Installation & Dismantle

Tradeshow installation and dismantle is a fast-paced, time-sensitive industry where deadlines matter and, as the saying goes, "the show must go on."

Tradeshow installers are dispatched to convention centers, hotels, and other event venues throughout Southern California. Depending on the size and scope of an event, hundreds - or even more than 1,000 - installers may be working together to prepare a show for opening.

Installers perform a wide range of specialized work, including laying carpet, assembling exhibits, installing graphics, and suspending truss and rigging for specialty lighting and other event components. Once a show opens, installers may be dispatched to another job or have several days before returning to dismantle the show and prepare for the next event.

Because of the industry's strict deadlines, work schedules can vary significantly, and some projects may require extended shifts of 16 hours or more. The work can be physically demanding and requires reliability, teamwork, skill, and a strong commitment to safety.

Compensation reflects the demanding nature and scheduling requirements of the industry:

Monday-Friday

  • 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Straight time
  • 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. - Time and a half
  • 8:30 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. - Double time

Saturday & Sunday

  • Double time

In addition to competitive wages, eligible members receive employer-paid medical, dental, and vision benefits, as well as pension contributions based on hours worked.

A career in tradeshow installation and dismantle can be challenging, but for those who take pride in skilled, hands-on work, it can also provide excellent compensation, valuable benefits, and the opportunity to build a rewarding career.
